I started working with Mike the summer before my wedding and I am so happy I did. With his guidance, I lost inches and dropped my overall body fat percentage significantly in what felt like very little time! He is a great motivator and keeps your workouts interesting so you never feel bored or plateau. He’s also an excellent resource for nutrition and I really felt like I looked the best I had in years for my big day. We did exercises I’d never done before that strengthen not only the big muscles everyone hits but also the smaller, often neglected muscle groups. Not only do you look great but you are stronger and better at everyday activities. I felt awesome the rest of the day after our workouts and we always had fun. I was so excited with my results that I continued to train with Mike for another year after the wedding. I would definitely recommend him for all fitness levels and anyone looking to take their workouts to the next level.

Michael Urso was my personal trainer at Equinox gym on the Upper West Side in New York from January through August 2011. He stands out in my mind as a great athlete, instructor and motivator. He has an intuitive sense of when to push and when to hold; when to vary a series of exercises and when to keep to a routine. He made workouts something I looked forward to (no easy task for this non-athlete!) and helped me get the most out of each one. Equinox personal training does not come cheap but even as the rates rose with Michael’s additional certifications, I always felt he delivered great value for the money. Michael is always professional, always mindful of safety and his client’s dignity (which for non-athletes in a gym setting can be a source of great concern), but also always upbeat and funny. Each of our allotted hours passed quickly and left my spirits raised for the rest of the day. I was very sorry to see Michael go when he left New York. I would recommend him to athletes and non-athletes alike for his skills and knowledge, dedication, humor, timeliness and value for the money. If you want to improve your health, your performance, your physique or your spirits, Michael’s the trainer for you.

Right before I started my training sessions I was in the worst shape I have been. I was at 231 pounds with an unstable left knee (I couldn’t climb stairs without the support and I couldn’t even walk moderate distances without a knee brace) and an injured left shoulder.

I started working out with Mike July 15th, 2013 and fast forward a year, I am down to 161 pounds (I weigh less than I did when I graduated high school in 1987) and I just got back from a very active one month trip to Myanmar where I did some serious hiking and climbing without having to use a knee brace or a hiking pole.

Sure I can take credit for working hard, however, I have been a member of Gold’s Gym since 1999 (and I was regular), I have tried Crossfit and I have had personal trainers before. None of it really made any significant difference. I was “fitter” when I was serious about working out then when I wasn’t, but the difference was never so trans-formative or consistent. For that I completely credit Mike.

From when we started he seemed so invested in my progress and he was so confident in his belief that I could change (I did not believe it myself), I think in the beginning I probably worked as hard as I did, to not disappoint him and not from any kind of self-motivation.

Going to a gym has always been something that has given me anxiety. Mike has always been encouraging and patient with me. I have never felt him judging me on my physical state. It has helped me not only feel at home at the gym but I actually look forward to working out.

Losing all the weight, strengthening my knee and shoulder are all great - however getting back my self-confidence and feeling positive about myself (after a really long time) is a gift.

I began training with Michael over a year ago. He is incredibly responsive to a client’s goals and works harder than anyone to help that person achieve those goals. In addition, he has introduced me to all kinds of training that has helped me change my body shape. I now love rowing and kettlebells and the ViPR. He knows exactly what we did the session before and therefore, switches it up, teaches me new skills, and we are always doing something new. I wanted a trainer that would totally kick my butt as training is expensive, to say the least, now I’m getting my money’s worth.

Personal training with Michael is one of the best decisions I’ve ever made. He is very focused and dedicated to providing you the best possible training experience tailored to your specific goals and fitness level. He is a pleasure to work with and I have already seen great results in my strength, balance and flexibility. I am feeling more confident and look forward to the many benefits training with him will provide to me going forward.

Mike is an outstanding trainer and a great guy. He is knowledgable, organized, focused, and stresses proper form. I’ve trained for 2 years and have seen significant improvement in strength and flexibility and have never felt better. Despite the hard work he makes the sessions enjoyable as well. Highly recommended!
